We are looking for an experienced cook to join our Harland South Park Team!
About the job:
In this position, a Line Cook sets the stage for success in our Kitchens. The line cook will assist the Culinary team in preparing food, maintaining a clean and safe cooking environment, and always be ready & willing to take on culinary tasks as they arise. Strong candidates must be ready to work in a high pressure, fast paced environment, while always keeping the Company's high standards of quality, cleanliness, and efficiency in mind. This position requires physical endurance, as well as mental determination in order to meet the standards of the restaurant and ensure guest satisfaction. This individual will report to the Executive Chef and will play a key role in driving the company's high-volume needs and expectations. Our Line Cooks will also execute exceptional customer service skills to all applicable company associates. They are expected to uphold Harland Brewing Co.’s Code of Conduct, Employee Handbook, Mission, and Values in every aspect of their duties
Your day-to-day:
- Preparation of food items, meeting kitchen standards and exercising appropriate attention to detail as far as quality and quantities needed during business hours.
- Weighing, measuring, chopping, and mixing hot and cold food items, while always ensuring product quality.
- Display the ability to read, execute, and communicate any questions about menu recipes.
- Properly label and date all products to ensure safekeeping and sanitation standards.
- Rotate inventory items using the FIFO (first-in, first-out) method.
- Build and maintain a solid knowledge of all menu items, sanitation standards, and basic culinary techniques.
- Keep workstations clean, organized, and well-stocked throughout shifts, while taking care to restock for subsequent shifts.
- Keep a safe and sanitary work environment when food handling throughout all tasks

- Communicate promptly and clearly with Culinary Management regarding product concerns, malfunctioning equipment, and outages.

- The entire Culinary Staff are expected to help in the dish pit area as needed.
- Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulation
- Comply with CA rest and meal break law and accurately record time in ADP, Toast and Arryvd
- Other tasks as needed
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays and alternative work weeks
- For this position, we have openings for both full-time or part-time availability
- Ability to work 8 hour shifts may be required
- Must be a team player who can maintain a positive, professional approach with team members and customers.
- Ability to work well following verbal instructions, be an active listener, recall and complete tasks given spoken commands.
- Patience, perseverance, and tact are required in dealing with high-demand, high-stress moments.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen tools/utensils, and proper food handling procedures.
- An eagerness and passion to learn new tasks and reach new levels in the kitchen environment.
- The ability to make quick decisions and prioritize multiple tasks is essential.
- Previous cooking experience and/or culinary school background
- SERV Safe Certification
- An unwavering desire to be positive, with a can-do attitude!
Physical Requirements:
- A line cook will be frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise.
- Makes frequent, short trips to the refrigerator, freezer, and storage areas.
- This position requires an acute sense of taste and the ability to plate menu items according to the Chef’s instructions
- A line cook must have the ability to use a chef knife, operate equipment including but not limited to: an iCombi, oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives.
- May occasionally lift, push, pull, reach for, and move items weighing 50 lbs. or more.
- Kitchen flooring may become slippery from moisture and grease; this job requires constant attention to hazards and safety concerns.
- Must be able to take out trash, move, and unload inventory and deliveries.
- Able to work in indoor moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors
