Job Summary
We are seeking a Hardware Program Manager to work with cross-functional teams in the development, launch, and sustainment of high-quality hardware products. This role goes beyond traditional program management by owning end-to-end responsibility for regulatory product compliance and global certification processes.
While compliance and certification leadership are critical components of the role, the successful candidate will operate as a program manager at their core—driving day-to-day execution of hardware development programs across cross-functional teams.
You will serve as the primary point of accountability for hardware program execution, risk management, and compliance/certification outcomes, collaborating closely with the Product Management team, ODM manufacturing partners, supply chain, and external testing labs and certification bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management Core Duties
- Lead and own multiple hardware programs development from ideation through post-launch sustainment, championing internal new product development (NPD) process, feature enhancements, and cost-reduction initiatives
- Develop and maintain comprehensive program plans including schedules, milestones, deliverables, and cross-functional dependencies across hardware, firmware, mechanical, and ODM manufacturing teams
- Drive cross-functional alignment and execution by facilitating regular program reviews, status meetings, and decision-making forums
- Identify, track, and mitigate program risks, issues, and dependencies; escalate critical items to leadership with clear action plans and impact assessments
- Coordinate closely with suppliers and ODM partners to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality product delivery
- Track and report program health metrics including schedule adherence, cost performance, and quality KPIs to stakeholders and leadership
- Own execution of hardware development programs following vendor/ODM selection, ensuring successful delivery from development through product release
Product Compliance & Certification Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end product compliance strategy and execution for hardware products, ensuring products meet global regulatory requirements for safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), wireless communication, and environmental standards
- Lead certification planning and execution by defining compliance requirements early in the design phase and ensuring design-for-compliance principles are incorporated
- Manage relationships with external testing laboratories, certification bodies (such as UL, TÜV, FCC, and CE notified bodies), and regulatory consultants
- Coordinate testing and certification activities through ODM partners to ensure successful regulatory approvals
- Oversee preparation and submission of compliance documentation including test reports, declarations of conformity (DoC), technical construction files, and regulatory filings
- Identify and track regulatory changes impacting products and drive necessary engineering updates or re-certification activities
- Integrate compliance checkpoints and certification milestones into program schedules to prevent delays in production ramp-up or market launch
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and support mitigation plans for identified regulatory risks
- Ensure required regulatory documentation is maintained for product transportation and storage, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS), Dangerous Goods (DG) documentation, UN38.3 battery compliance, and other applicable shipping or handling regulations
- Collaborate with quality and reliability teams to ensure compliance-related failures are addressed through root cause analysis and corrective actions
Additional Duties
- Champion continuous improvement of program management processes, new product development workflows, and compliance operations
- Support cross-functional collaboration across product development, operations, and manufacturing teams
Skills and Requirements
- Strong hardware program management skills with the ability to coordinate complex development programs across cross-functional teams
- Deep understanding of global hardware regulatory compliance and certification processes
- Experience working with Asian ODM partners, suppliers, and third-party testing laboratories
- Ability to manage schedules, risks, and dependencies within complex hardware development programs
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across engineering, product, and operations teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a proactive approach to risk mitigation
- Proficiency with program management and collaboration tools such as Linear, Confluence, Jira, MS Project, or similar platforms
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in hardware program management, technical program management, or engineering project leadership
- 3+ years of experience managing hardware regulatory compliance and certification processes
- Proven experience launching hardware products requiring global regulatory certifications
- Working knowledge of global compliance standards including FCC Part 15, CE (RED/EMC/LVD), UL/IEC 62368, RoHS, and REACH
- Experience working with external certification labs, regulatory bodies, and international manufacturing partners
- PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred
- Experience in consumer electronics, IoT devices, telecommunications, or similar hardware-driven industries preferred
- Golf industry experience a plus
